The Mavericks finished the 2018 season at 13-1 overall. Minnesota State defeated and eliminated CSU-Pueblo and Tarleton State, only to fall to eventual national runner-up Ferris State in the national semifinals. In the NCAA Division II playoffs, one team managed to make a deep run, while the other team was 'one and done'. Both teams finished unbeaten at 7-0 in division play, as well as undefeated in regular season action at 11-0. The Bulldogs won the North Division title, while the Mavericks clinched the South Division crown.
